Facebook: Create multiple personal profiles – here’s how

In the future, you will be able to create several profiles for your different interests on Facebook. You no longer have to log out and log back in, but can simply switch back and forth between your personal profiles.

Facebook wants to clean up the experience for its users and will in future make it possible to create multiple personal profiles. According to the Meta subsidiary, this will make it possible to “organise your own experiences on Facebook”.

This is because each individual profile has its own feed, which is aligned according to the respective interests. According to Facebook, it is possible to combine several interests and, for example, have a profile for “the foodie scene” and one to keep in touch with friends and family. It is also possible, for example, to separate private and professional contacts on Facebook.

How to create multiple profiles on Facebook

The new function allows you to create up to four additional personal profiles on Facebook. To do this, you need a username that begins with an @, as usual.

Once the profile is created, you can curate the content for each profile. This way you can divide your different interests and sort them better.

If you have several profiles on Facebook, you can easily switch between them. There is no need to log out and log in again.

What you can expect with the new function

You can choose any name you like for your additional profiles on Facebook. The meta-subsidiary points out that this does not apply to your main profile. According to the guidelines, you have to enter the name “under which you appear in everyday life”.

If you create an additional profile on Facebook, the standard settings apply. Facebook does not automatically apply the settings for notifications or privacy that you already have on your existing profile to your new profile.

It is also not possible to set up the settings collectively. Conversely, this means that you have to check your settings for each new profile and adjust them to your wishes if necessary.

Facebook still plans these functions for several profiles

The new Facebook function will be introduced worldwide in the next few days. In the coming months, it will be expanded even further.

For the start, functions such as dating, marketplace or professional mode are not yet available for additional personal profiles. For the time being, you can only use Messenger for your new profiles in the Facebook app and in the web view. An integration for Messenger is to follow “in the coming months”.
