New logo: Twitter becomes “X” – otherwise nothing changes

The Twitter brand has apparently had its day. New owner Elon Musk wants to rename the short message service “X”. Musk’s favourite letter already adorns the new Twitter logo in some places. Will the name and domain follow?

Elon Musk already bought back the domain “X.com” from Paypal in 2017. Now it is to replace the previous domain “Twitter.com”.

As is well known, “X” is the favourite letter of Twitter’s new owner Musk. The letter is not only found in his space company SpaceX, but also in his new AI company “xAI“, among others.

Twitter has had its day and gets a new logo

Elon Musk of course announced the change via Twitter and X itself. In an announcement, he says he wants to “soon say goodbye to the Twitter brand and, little by little, to all the birds”.

Musk has also already posted the preliminary logo on the platform. In a GIF, the old bird logo can be seen in the beginning, then the new X appears.

The staff was informed shortly before

Twitter CEO Linda Yaccarino has also already posted the new logo. She writes: “X is here! Let’s do this.” After Elon Musk renamed the company Twitter to X Holdings on paper some time ago, the associated platform is now following suit.

As Platformer editor Zoe Schiffer reports, Twitter employees were informed of the change this evening. Elon Musk told the workforce that the company would be renamed X. He announced in an email that this would be the last one he would ever send from a Twitter address.

Where did the new Twitter logo come from?

The GIF with the new logo for Twitter comes from the user Sawyer Merritt. The X used in it now also adorns the social network’s website.

Elon Musk’s profile picture now also consists of the letter. The minimalist X can also be seen behind his Twitter handle and that of CEO Yaccarino.

However, it is unlikely to stop there. Because, as Elon Musk announced, changes are planned to further refine the design.
